History painfully repeating itself
Everyone knows Iraq is the same disaster 'Nam was. Everyone except the US Government and redneck America. It probably won't tell you something you don't already know, but CNN's Joshua Levs has kindly
spelt it out for the layman President of the United States:
Early in the Iraq conflict, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld dismissed insurgents as "dead-enders." In 2004, President Bush said the battle against these fighters was "turning a corner." In 2005, he described a "turning point," and Vice President Dick Cheney said the insurgency was in its "last throes."
Except it's really the 'coalition of the willing' that are in a dead-end, cornered, and one British general not too long ago certainly seemed in his last throes over the war. The unfortunate truth is the men and women who fight for their country aren't really fighting for their values, but to help a bunch of American politicians pursue an imperialist agenda. And that's even worse if you're British.
